December 31st of 2011 WE MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, it was about 70 miles from Riverside to Santa Monica and 76 miles from San Bernadino to Santa Monica so – so----- Glyn decided to go ahead and cycle from San Bernadino. I think he was afraid for me to drive back down to Riverside and risk getting lost again! LOL!!!
December 29th
We headed out at about 1:30 in the afternoon. Normally 70 miles would take him a little over 3 hours to cycle but the traffic was soooooo bad through LA that we had to stop at 5:30 because the sun had gone down and it was too dangerous for him to cycle in all that traffic after dark. He had only gone about 40 miles. He was discouraged because he really wanted to get to the beach. We stayed in the WalMart parking lot just outside of town. We were on the road for nearly 9 hours and only went 129 miles. AARRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 30th
The events of the previous 2 days were so stressful that we decided to take a day off since we were running ahead of schedule. We did a little shopping and some sightseeing on the outskirts of town and landed at an RV park in Valencia - beautiful campground with mature trees, two swimming pools, and a great staff. RV parks are hard to find in LA and when you do find one, they are usually really “tight.” If you are traveling in the area, it is well worth the 20 minute drive up to Valencia Travel Village. Their number is 661-257-3333 and their website is www.valenciatravelvillagellc.com. They even have RV maintenance & detailing on the premises!!!
December 31st
First thing this morning we jumped on the expressway to head back to the area where we had left off on the 29th. We got a good “early” (10:00ish) start on the day and arrived at Santa Monica Beach around 1:00. Glyn headed straight to the ocean with his bike. He was thrilled to have accomplished his goal and I was so proud of him and for him. He decided afterwards to go surfing so we headed back to the RV for a quick change of clothes. The first thing we did before heading back out was to stop and pray and give God the thanks, the honor and the glory for holding us tight on this journey. It has been an amazing adventure with Him!!!!
Brian, Glyn & Hally
Jonathon & Glyn
While preparing to hit the waves, he ran into Hally and
Brian at the beachside bicycle rental shop.
They were awesome and gave Glyn the “pat on the back” he deserved.
It’s
funny - I felt like all of you were supposed to be there at the beach to greet
us!!! All of you have been so great to
keep in touch on Facebook, My Space and here on Glyn’s sight that I could not
imagine this experience without all of you being present. Trust me when I say that I carried each of
you in my heart right up to the water’s edge!!!
He rented a surfboard from Jonathon at Perry’s café and headed out. He met Jay and his son, Anderson, who regularly surf and they gave him some good “pointers.” However, he still spent most of the afternoon sucking ocean water up his nose!!!
Jay, Anderson & Glyn
Shortly thereafter he headed to a nearby skatepark called
The Cove with the new skateboard he bought when we were in Riverside. We picked it up at a little store called Active
Ride Shop from Rod and Damian. They were
terrific! After picking out the deck,
bearings, trucks, and grip tape needed, they put it all together for him. He’s been mad at me for two days because I
wouldn’t let him ride it till he had finished cycling. I was not about to get this close and not
make it due to an injury!! Anyway, these
guys have some great stuff. You can find
them on the web at www.activerideshop.com.
Thanks guys for helping to make this the best day of the trip!!!! What a finale’!!!!!!!!
Glyn & Damian
Rod and Glyn
I had wanted to take Glyn to a really nice dinner to
celebrate. We drove around for a while
looking for that “just right” place.
Well, an hour later, we settled on IHOP just outside of Venice
Beach. Marecila was our waitress. She and another lady were there by themselves
when we first arrived. Listen up, IHOP,
she was juggling things/people/food around with grace & ease & a smile
on her face!! She’s a real “keeper.”
Gyn & Marecila
Brothers & sisters in Christ - Glyn, Armand, Novel, and Keyon (5)
You know, God has the sweetest people tucked
away just waiting for the opportunity to bring you together. That is the way we feel about Armand, his
wife, Novel, and their son, Keyon. Our
hearts were woven together from the first time that we laid eyes on each
other. Sweet. Kind. Thoughtful.
Encouraging. A Blessingf.
We rang in the New Year with our new neighbors from the Dockweiler RV Park in Valencia – Scott & Alina Cardinal. What an experience!!!! I pray that God blesses each of you this year with His Presence!!!! We love each and every one of you!!!!!
December 29th of 2011
December 24th
We cycled through the Mojave dessert today. And, when I say “we,” I do mean WE. We had a lot of ground to cover because we
wanted to get to Twentynine Palms for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We originally thought we would be spending
that time in Parker but decided against it since we had no cell service. We did not want to be there on Christmas Day
without being able to call home and talk to all of you!!! Twentynine Palms was 103 miles from Parker so
we got an early start and took turns. I had
to beg Glyn to let me cycle. But, you
know it really made me feel GREAT to have been a part of this CYCLE trip by
putting some miles on a cycle myself.
Twentynine Palms - Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!!!!
Twentynine Palms is a snowbird RV park. We met the greatest people from Canada, British Columbia, Switzerland, Washington and Oregon. They have all been friends for the past 15 years and meet back there once a year for the winter. They were so nice to have included us in their Christmas Eve gathering and the Christmas Day Luncheon. This truly was a memorable Christmas!!!!
Palm Springs
The ride from Twentynine Palms to Palm Springs was a lot more mountainous than I realized. Glyn had some challenges today – that’s for sure!!!! By the way, thank you all so much for your prayers regarding my ear infection. It is much better and I did not even have to go to the doctor. I am still experiencing bouts of vertigo from time to time.
Moreno Valley
We just thought yesterdays route was challenging. Today Glyn started out at 403 ft and went up to 2613 ft over 27.5 miles. Needless to say we took lots of breaks and made sure Glyn was well hydrated. The awesome part was that the remaining 22 miles was ALL downhill!!!! As we came down the hill, we stopped to take another look at the map and get our bearings. A California Highway Patrolman stopped to check in on us and we found out that, although 60 is a highway, it is considered an expressway and is illegal to cycle. He steered us in the right direction and we ended up at Camper Resorts of America that evening. It’s unbelievable how God has moved ahead of us at each point on this trip. We were right where God would have had us to be!!!! Not only was it beautiful, but we were so well received by Jeanne(in the office) and our neighbors(Dan and Bruce). We had a wonderful time sitting around talking about the Lord and His goodness!!
From there, we headed to our next destination and somewhere
just past Riverside, I got us all turned around and dis-com-bob-a-lated. OK -------
I know you’re all shocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Somehow or other we ended up in San
Bernadino. But there again, it was all
part of God’s plan. We met Kay and her
husband, Clint. They were so sweet to
come down and open the gate and get us registered at 9sumthn at night. Driving around lost in a strange city – a strange
BIG city – was nerve racking and exhausting.
We had actually been to 3 other parks that were full before we ended up
landing at The San Bernadino RV Park. We
also met and hung out with Christy and Patrick(also a cyclist). If you are ever traveling through this area,
please stop in and let them know that we sent you!! Their number is 909-381-2276 and their
website is www.sbrvpark.com.
It has been a while since we have had access to the internet and I have so much to tell you all. We have been from Deming to Lordsburg to Willcox to Benson to the Cochise Stronghold (side trip) to Tombstone (side trip) – back up to Benson to Tucson to Casa Grande to Phoenix to Wickenberg and we are now in Parker, AZ. You will notice that I put the last city first on this blog to try and keep things in a more chronological order – that is, if you go back to the very beginning and read from the bottom, up.
Wickenburg, Wenden, Parker
We stayed at the Horspitality RV Park in Wickenburg before
heading out to Wenden/Hope, AZ. I was
running a fever from an ear infection and so we headed on to Parker. Parker is a larger town with access to an ER
and several pharmacies. I have been
fighting this ear “thing” since we left Carlsbad on the 8th. My equilibrium had been affected as well
causing me to fall (once) and to be sick on my stomach twice. Please continue to pray for healing. The last thing we want to do is spend
Christmas in the ER. We are staying at
the Bluewater RV Resort (AND CASINO). Ok!!!
Go ahead and laugh!!! The casino
is waaaaaay over on the other side. It
is beautiful here - right on the Colorodo River.
Phoenix
Phoenix is fabulous!!!! I think the first thing to say about the city is that it is beautiful!!!! And, it is so clean!!! The people are friendly and outgoing. This was one place that was easy to embrace!!! Glyn and I went on a horseback ride out into the desert led by our very capable guide, Sean. We had too much fun. We also had the privilege of meeting Ira Jones – a talented young man of character. Also, his smile lights up the room when he walks in the door. We look forward to seeing him again on the way back home.
Sean
Ira & his new friend, Gidgett
Casa Grande
We got an early start Monday morning and made good time heading to Casa Grande. We camped at the Buena Tierra Campground. We were greeted by Cass who helped us register and get settled in. She was so encouraging to Glyn and the endeavor that he undertaken. Positive, encouraging words from someone other than your mother help make the miles go by so much easier. We also met Lori. She works with a local dog adoption agency called Breeder Release Adoption. It takes a special person to do what she does!!! Their web address is breederreleaseadoption.org if you are interested in adopting a puppy or dog.
Cass, Glyn & Lori
Benson to Tucson
On Sunday after lunch we drove back up to Benson so that Glyn could continue cycling where he had left off on Thursday afternoon. I know that there is a lot to see and do in Tucson but we were just pooped. We stayed overnight in the parking lot of the local Goodwill store and opted “out” of any sightseeing.
Tombstone
At this point, we were so close to the historic town of Tombstone that we decided to stay the night there and tour the town the next morning before Glyn had to start cycling again on Saturday. The town and its people are absolutely intoxicating!!! So much so that we stayed another day – we had an extra day since Glyn had not taken an “off” day since leaving El Paso. We made friends and intend to stop on the way back to reconnect.

Benson
When we arrived in Benson, we found out about the Kartchner Caverns and started to head there for a great afternoon of spelunking. However, we also found out about the Cochise Stronghold just a little further south and decided to head that direction for some history and hiking. When we got there we were awestruck by its beauty and stayed until the sun was going down investigating various trails and caves. We also met Tim Thacker, the pastor of Broken Bow Baptist Church. We stood in the warm sun (a welcome break from all the cold we left behind) and talked about the Lord. Long story short – we will be going back this summer to help with a three week youth camp!!!! Praise the Lord!!!!!
Willcox
When we first got into town, we were starving and stopped for a bite to eat – unusual for us since we do not eat out often. We found a little diner that took me back to “Happy Days” – the TV series. It was awesome. Kailyn and John took our order and filled us in on the town history. Shortly thereafter, Donna (the owner) came in and told us the story behind all her antique memorabilia. If you ever have the opportunity to go through this area, please stop in and have a “Carter Burger” – they are huge and homemade!!! We stayed at the Grande Vista RV Park where the managers rolled out the red carpet. Their welcoming smiles and kind attitude ministered to both Glyn and me after being on the road for so long and so far from home.

I got me a man!

Lordsburg
We found out that the museum in Lordsburg has the largest exhibit of Prisoner of War memorabilia from WWII. It was fascinating!! Much to our surprise, it was not at all what we thought – turns out that Lordsburg was the largest POW camp in the US housing German and Japanese war criminals. We learned soooo much. On the way to Willcox we stopped at Dwayne’s Fresh Jerkey to buy some homemade jerky. It was delicious!! And, it will definitely be one of our stops on the way back to pick up some more jerky and smoked pistachios. Dwayne’s wife, Pam, also shares an interest in alternative therapies and is very knowledgeable.
December 12th of 2011 AMAZING!!!!!
December 8th
We have had the most amazing experiences – despite the weather. Well, Glyn did not get to share his testimony at Word of Faith last night due to his sinus infection (and a slight temperature). However, he did get to do the on-air interview with KCC Radio. He did a great job!!!! The arrangements for this very special event were made by our new friend, Kerri, at the RV Park. Afterwards, we had to say good-bye. God had so knitted our hearts together that it was very hard to leave.
Kerri
Bob and Lyn
Also, we were privileged to have the best neighbors – Bob Allen and his son, Lyn. Glyn and Lyn were about the same age and quickly formed a friendship - The two of them would play ping-pong by the hour night after night.
The ride from Carlsbad to El Paso was long and hard. It was 130 miles. There was not one open business or gas station where we could stop and make camp. Glyn cycled as far as he could and then we made the rest of the trip in the RV. For safety reasons, we felt that it would not be a good idea to just park on the side of the road in the middle of the desert. We stayed an extra day in El Paso in order to connect with a friend on the army base at Fort Bliss. Being so far from home, it is extremely important to us to be encouraged by the people God has chosen – no, ordained – to be a part of this extraordinary journey.
Snow capped mountains in the desert
From El Paso, Glyn cycled to Las Cruces. We stayed at the RV park off Weinrich Rd. We were greeted by Dan and Ralphy. They seemed to get a kick out of the fact that we were having a snowball fight in the desert. We were parked on a hillside overlooking the city and facing the mountains in the distance. The view of the mountains was incredible!!! From where we were staying we could see the giant star that is on the side of the mountain just above El Paso and Juarez. It must have been 45 miles away but we could see it clearly – unbelievable!!
Dan & Ralphy
Snow ball fight!!!!
December 11th
We looked on line and found out that the White Sands National Monument was about 60 miles from las Cruces. Although not on our original schedule, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Glyn cycled to the dunes where we spent the rest of the day sandboarding. We rented these plastic saucers and hit the 70 foot dunes!!! Gidget even joined in the fun. She loved it!!! The freakish thing was that there was 6” of snow on top of the sand dunes. We were all exhausted after all that activity and headed to Caballo. We stayed at the Lakeview RV park. Jim and Bev were great!!!! We were able to get gasoline and LP gas all right there in one place. They also had horses across the road. Glyn jumped the fence in order to play with them and feed them apples. They were the most loving, affectionate horses.

Glyn & Eileen, Park Ranger
Our original route took us on over to Silver City from Caballo. This portion of the trip was one that Glyn had been excited about since before we left Birmingham. It would take us up to a mountain pass that was at 8,149 feet. However, there is a bridge that is only 12ft 2in and the RV is 13ft 4in. So, we went back to the drawing board and mapped out a route that takes us to Phoenix through Deming. We started the day just before the rain and stayed just one step ahead of it till we reached Deming, NM. We are staying at the Little Vineyard RV Park. We are expecting rain again tomorrow so we may have to stay an extra day.

December 7th of 2011 Snow in the desert
Can you believe it? Glyn cycled on his off day so that we could hurry on to Carlsbad and "make it" before the bad weather hit. Well we made it before the bad weather hit but then it hit harder than expected. We got about 1 1/2" of snow. It dropped into the teens at night with a windchill factor dropping to -1. The roads west of us were closed all the way to El Paso. So, even if Glyn wanted to continue, we could not. Those of you who know Glyn, know that he is crazy enough to cycle in the snow but I'm not crazy enough to DRIVE in the snow!!! However, as usual, God is slowly unfolding the plans he has for us here in Carlsbad.
Glyn's birthday was Saturday and we went to Carlsbad Caverns. AWESOME!!!!! On Sunday Glyn went back to Slaughter Canyon for an "extra" tour of a cavern that was off the beaten path. That afternoon we went back to the Caverns to do the King's Palace Tour. Glyn was favoring his right knee again after the hike this morning, however, and opted out of going with me on the King's Palace Tour. While on the tour, I had the opportunity to meet one of America's heroes in the war against terrorism. He came back to the RV and hung out with us and ate some chili while he shared with Glyn "tales from the battlefield." Knowing that Glyn is interested in a career with the armed forces, he was able to give him some good advice and direction. Most importantly, he is a devout christian. He and Glyn connected right from the start and will stay in touch for years to come. Thank you, my friend, for your service to our country and to our God!!!!! I only regret that I do not have the honor of posting your name and picture so that everyone would know the price you have paid for their freedom.
Glyn made the front page of the Current Argus newspaper yesterday. In addition, he will have the privilege to share his testimony this evening at Word of Faith church and has an on-the-air interview tomorrow with KCC Radio. Please continue to pray for him. Last night he began to show signs of a sinus infection and woke up this morning with a sore throat. We need an immediate healing touch from God!!! Saints, please join in agreement with me for this!!!!!
December 2nd of 2011 Lamesa to Carlsbad
Wednesday the weather was great for cycling – sunny and 64 degrees when we started out. There was a slight wind coming in out of the east that helped push Glyn along. Before we left we ran into Trooper Joey Sauseda in the parking lot of WalMart. He was so encouraging about Glyn’s coast to coast challenge. So many people have been excited to see a young person with dreams … with goals … with plans. But, its people like Trouper Souseda are the real heroes. And, when you get an “at-a-boy” from someone like him, it really makes a difference.
Trouper Joey Sauseda
Janie, Lucy and Dottie from CVS Pharmacy
Next, we stopped by the CVS pharmacy to pick up the medication that had been ordered for Glyn. Janie, Lucy and Dottie were there with smiles awaintin’!!! They had heard about Glyn’s story and had been waiting to meet him. It’s a shame that we missed the opportunity to meet David. He was the one that had gone the extra mile to order the medication and have it delivered overnight.
We arrived in Hobbs, NM and stayed in the Harry McAdams RV Park. It was small but really nice. Each of the spots on the outer circle had their own covered picnic table. Knowing that the bad weather was rolling in, we stopped at the Lowe’s RV Sales and Service to pick up some supplies and have our awning checked. Darlene and Jetta Lee greeted us like family. They checked things out on the RV and sent us on our way with hugs. Next we dropped by the O & S Quick OilChange to top off our fluids. Robert, John, Tyler, Nancy, “Big” Jose and Chris treated Glyn like a celebrity. “Little” Jose is the one who worked on the RV. He and Glyn both got under there and it was like watching two pigs in mud. Too many laughs, too many stories to share and too little time. Thanks again, you guys!!

We headed towards Carlsbad in the same fabulous weather. However, by the time the sun went down, things changed drastically – it was 31 and windy. I was so glad that we were prepared!!!! The gang at the Carlsbad RV Park is AWESOME!!!! Sooooo friendly and uplifting!!! If you are ever in the area, you have got to stay here! You’ll never meet a group of folks so willing to help you get settled in and go the extra mile to meet your needs!!! Their website is www.carlsbadrvpark.comand their number is 575-885-6333.

Glyn headed towards Breckenridge when he spotted a skate park just outside of town. Needless to say, he stopped, changed clothes and got out his trick bike in order to have some fun before getting back on the road. We arrived in Breckenridge just after dark and stayed in the WalMart parking lot. Carol was the manager that greeted us. She was so kind. We were out of cell service and she graciously allowed me to make a call to Nana to let her know that we had arrived safely. Thank you so much, Carol. It is people like you that make WalMart the success that it is!!!!
Just havin' fun!!!!
It's all going downhill
Glyn & Carol
The next morning we headed to Anson. The wind was blowing at 21 mph and gusting up to 42 mph straight out of the west – a head on wind. It was very difficult to drive in and even harder to cycle in. Glyn said that it was the coldest he has ever been and every mile felt like 10 miles on his legs. Needless to say he was exhausted at the days end – 60 miles.
Glyn crossing Hubbard Creek Lake
When we arrived in Anson, we discovered that there was not an RV park with space available except for one and their facility did not have showers. So, we decided to drive into Abilene for the night so that we could go to the Texas Frontier Museum and the Zoo. (They have a white tiger.) The Texas Frontier was incredible. First, we met Jacque. She was so cheerful and made us feel at home. The exhibits were incredible!!! They have used CG affects to walk you through the frontier experience complete with a buffalo stampede. Glyn is such a history nut that I wasn’t sure I could get him out of there. On the way out we met Jeff, Scott and Kim Snyder (the president of the board). We never did get by the zoo because it was already after lunch and we needed to get back to Anson so we could pick up our trail headed towards Snyder.

Once again, WalMart came to the rescue. Krysta and several of the CSMs welcomed us with open arms. However, Glyn was wiped out from the day and was too tired to go in for pictures. We were supposed to take the day off today. But, after looking at the weather forecast for Lamesa, Hobbs and Carlsbad for 10 days, Glyn decided it was best to keep heading west. By Friday the eastern portion of New Mexico is going to have icy rain. YUCK!!!!!! Before we left Snyder, we stopped by the CVS pharmacy and Rhonda went the extra mile to be sure that we were taken care of – even ordering the meds to be sent to the CVS in Lamesa to be picked up tomorrow. How awesome is that???
Rhonda, Glyn Kelli and Travis
We are falling in love with Texas! It is beautiful here! Sometimes you can see for miles in any direction and the sunsets here are breathtaking. I can understand now the powerful draw that the frontier had on early pioneers. There is just something extra special here!!
November 21st thru the 26th of 2011
Monday the 21st
Before we continued on our trek below Dallas, we wanted to have an opportunity to visit with my sister and her husband – Nancy & Dan Mahoney. We met up with them at a little café – Café Raz - in Lancaster not far from where we had camped out in the WalMart parking lot. I had not seen my sister since our dad’s funeral in June of 2009. And, even then, we did not really get a chance just to visit. So, although short, it was time that we all needed to “put a lovin’ on each other” especially here at the beginning of the holiday season.
My sister, Nancy
Lunch with Nancy & Dan at Cafe Raz
After lunch, Glyn cycled on past his original destination (Mansfield) to Burleson. When we got there, we went into the local Academy Sports in order for Glyn to buy–you’re not going to believe this–a new bike. Some days he wants to just have fun while riding! After riding some 1400 miles, I figured “Why not?”
Tuesday the 22nd
The next morning we headed to Spokes Bicycles to pick up some gloves for cold weather riding. Due to the delay from Glyn’s accident, we are experiencing some cold weather that we were not prepared to handle. David Garrett, the owner of Spokes, gave Glyn some great tips on routes to take and cold weather gear to purchase. Thanks again, David for your encouragement, advice, and your gift. If you are in the area and need some supplies, his number is 817-447-3305 and his website is

Wednesday the 23rd
In an effort to make up for lost time, Glyn, once again cycled past his original destination(Weatherford) to Mineral Springs. We had a terrific adventure walking through the woods and spotting a flock of 25 wild turkeys – the day before Thanksgiving!!!!
Turkeys!!!!!!!!
We ended up staying at the Eagle’s Nest RV park run by Beverly King. The view was unbelievable!!!! If you’re ever in the area, please call her at 940-325-1920 to make a reservation. And, you’ll never guess what was right above my “head”- towering to the sky was a 30 foot cross that, when lit up at night, could be seen for a couple of miles.
Beverly King
Thursday the 24th Thanksgiving Day
The next day was Thanksgiving Day. We decided to go to the Cracker Barrel to have some turkey and dressing. Interestingly, when we got there, neither of us ordered turkey and dressing. We did, however, eat till we were stuffed like turkeys.
We headed into town for more adventures at the Old Baker Hotel. Completed in 1929, it was considered to be the most opulent hotel in the United States – movie stars, outlaws and several of our presidents reported to have been guests on numerous occasions. It was the first hotel of its size (14 floors) to have air conditioning and the first to have a hydraulic system that pumped cool fresh water to each room. It has been abandoned since 1967 and is a bit run down but still quite beautiful.
Glyn on the steps of the Old Baker Hotel
WWII Box Car Plane
We also found an abandoned Air Force museum and slipped in under the fence to take a peek at this box car style airplane from WWII. Apparantly, however, it still had security – in the form of a GINORMOUS dog. Glyn had to make a serious run for it!!!!!
Friday the 25th
Friday morning Glyn had an interview with Chris Agee from the Mineral Wells Index – the local paper. We met down at the Old Baker Hotel and got some great pics.

David & his granddaughter, Gracie
We also made some new friends while we were there - Eric and David & Gracie.
Next, Glyn tried out his new trick bike and, well, you see how well that went - - - - - -
We headed back to the campsite and noticed that one of the panels from the RV had come loose so we stopped in an empty lot to work on it. Jonathon, who just so happens, to work at a garage next to the lot came over and gave us a helping hand. This put us behind schedule to run get some LP gas from Ferrell Gas Co. before they closed at 5. We called ahead and they agreed to wait on us. WOW!!!! What a tremendous blessing! Thank you Patricia!!
Glyn and Jonathon

That afternoon Glyn cycled to Canton, TX. We stayed in the WalMart parking lot and were joyfully greeted by Janie, Becky and Tim.
Glyn on his “new” bicycle. LOL!!!!!
Becky’s dad has Crohn’s disease. It did her AND Glyn a world of good to stand arm-in-arm and share their stories.
Sunday he cycled from Canton to Terrell. We had originally planned to cycle to Kaufman. However, from county road 429 to Kaufman was a little over 10 miles and on over to Terrell, it was a little over 10 miles. We headed to Terrell because we could stay in an RV Park.
We stayed at the Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park. It is rated as one of the top RV parks in the country by the Good Sam Club. It was so nice and included an exercise room, hot tub, tennis courts, horseshoes and a fishing lake.
November 18th of 2011 The Love of God
Sunday, the 13th
Sunday morning we went to church at Rose Heights Church of God. There really is something special about this place!!!! The anointing and the Spirit of God is so awesome at this church!!! It was THE spiritual refreshing that both Glyn and I needed.
After we ate lunch, we met up with Megan and Chauncy at the park. Glyn wanted to see how his knee was progressing. He hopped on his bike and rode alongside of Megan while she jogged. Three miles later he said it was feeling pretty good but could still feel a “catch” in the motion.
Monday evening I went to the Annual Ladies Dinner at Rose Heights Church. The program was great – lots of food, fun & laughter!!! The ladies I met on Wednesday evening saved me a seat and welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I had known them for years. Our bond of friendship was formed quickly and will last forever.
Monday, Tuesday and most of Wednesday Glyn and I were fighting off a stomach virus and we both felt really bad. In the meantime, my back started hurting. I had been invited by the pastor’s wife, Gina, to perform in sign language Wednesday evening after her teaching. I had asked Shirley to pray with me that afternoon that my back would stop spasming long enough to get through the performance of “Redeemer” by Nicole C. Mullen. After church I went to hang out with Megan, Chauncy, Jana and some of her other friends. It was short lived, however, because the pain in my back had jumped to an eight. At times, it would even cut off my breath.
Thursday morning, Shirley came by the RV and picked me up and we headed to a chiropractor – Dr. Justin Smith -that agreed to work me into his schedule. I had been concerned about seeing a total stranger but when I walked in I knew I was in the right place. There was framed scripture all over the walls. As it turns out, I was in pretty bad shape!!! The rest of the afternoon I spent on an ice pack and rested. Friday morning was about the same but I’m improving rapidly. I am pretty sure that I’ll be rip-roaring-ready-to-go by in the morning. A very special thanks goes out to the team of people at Tyler Chiropractor!!!!
I cannot begin to tell you how special and important the Sherrod’s have become to us. God placed us here in Tyler for the express purpose of bringing us together. I feel like I have another mother and dad. The way Shirley has nurtured me and looked after me is uncanny – well – it has been a God thing. One afternoon, I watched as Clifton placed his hands on Glyn’s shoulders and blessed him in the name of Yeshua. It was as if we had taken a step back in time and a mighty patriarch of the faith was instructing Glyn on how to live out the remainder of his life.
Servants, what has taken place here in Tyler-the Sherrod’s, the Messianic Synagogue, Rose Heights Church of God, the doctors, the RV park, Megan- is what should be the “norm” within the body of Christ!!! Think about that for a minute. If it really became the “norm” our country, our communities, and our families would be a greater reflection of Love of God!!!!
November 12th of 2011 AWESTRUCK!!!
That little refrain that says “I stand, I stand in awe of you…I stand, I stand in awe of you” keeps playing over and over again in my head. I had just posted Wednesday afternoon for you all to be praying that we would see the opportunities that God had for us here in Tyler, TX. Not five minutes later IT came knocking on the door of the RV right there in the Walmart parking lot!!! I am not kidding you.
I opened the door and there stood Santa Clause!! He was curious about RV living and wanted to know if he and his wife could talk with us about our experience. I invited them in and God took over from there. Their names were Clifton and Shirley. We were specifically looking for two things that afternoon – an RV park and a church to connect with. It turns out that their good friends, Roy and Dreda, are the managers of an RV park. Also, they happen to go to a Messianic Jewish Synagogue. Little did they know, we go to a MJS in Birmingham – we were thrilled.
We drove over to the RV park, took showers and headed to a church that Roy and Dreda knew about not far from the park – Rose Heights Baptist Church. They had a terrific youth group that welcomed Glyn with open arms. The group of ladies that were in my study group were fantastic and even bought my ticket to the annual ladies dinner this coming Monday night – I can hardly wait!!!
We had to run by the doctor’s office to pick up another prescription for Glyn. We were able to get a handful of pictures with some folks that had been unavailable on Tuesday. The folks at the Orthopoedic Sports Center at Trinity Mother Frances have been a terrific source of support and encouragement. Glyn’s doctor, Doctor Stein, even invited us to the John Tyler Playoff Football Game(he is the team doctor). We went by the school on Friday afternoon and visited with head coach Derick Rush – awesome guy that took a few minutes out of his schedule on a playoff day to say a few words of encouragement to this kid from Alabama.
The game was great – the second half anyway – it was all about the defense!!! They won 32-14!! The band was fantastic too! The half time show was something to see!!!
After the game we went to get gas and would you believe it? Little 'ol me got lost. These gentlemen helped get us headed in the right direction.
Then, this morning(Saturday) Clifton and Shirley picked us up to go to church. Their synagogue does not yet have a building. It meets in a tent. It was so coooool!!!! The folks there are fantastic. After services we ate lunch and Glyn made some new friends. They invited him to go hang out and he was, oh, so happy to get a break from me.
Thank you all so much for the prayers!!! You know, “this” is all your fault!!!! LOL!!!!!

We stopped by the local Regions bank and met the branch manager, Mrs. Sonjia Burgess. She was so sweet and kind. Her words of blessing and encouragement made the afternoon a little easier.
Waiting for tests results must be the hardest part of any illness or injury. But, God grows us in the waiting.
We saw Dr. Joseph Stein Tuesday morning and found out that everything was going to be OK. He has a severe bone bruise with a lot of swelling and inflammation. He recommended that Glyn stay off of it for about a week before starting out again on the bike and then he needed to take it kind of easy. Overdoing things could set Glyn further behind- and I’m not talking just about the cycle trip. His heart is still intent on playing football in the fall as a college freshman. We will remain in Tyler, TX until Monday or Tuesday of next week. In the meantime, please pray that we can clearly see the opportunities that God is putting in our paths here in Tyler, TX.
Dr. Joseph Stein
Mija - she is beautiful inside and out
We were both starving when we left the doctor’s office and went by China King restaurant on South Broadway. It was voted the best buffet in east Texas by BSCENE magazine. They were right!!! Mija was our waitress and she is a bundle of joy – a real doll. Her son, Lucas(15), received a knee injury playing football recently and is also on crutches. She was so precious and empathetic towards Glyn. If you are ever in the area, stop in for a bite and be sure to ask for Mija.
There were a couple of things that we needed to have checked on the RV so we headed towards the Tyler RV Center on Loop 323 between Hwy 14 and 271. Little did we know that the man who was being so helpful – IN THE RAIN – was the owner, Bradley Shaw. His kind and gentle spirit were a testament to his character. He was such a blessing even pointing us in the direction of a cycle club here in Tyler. He even took time out of his day to step into the RV and just spend time with Glyn. How awesome is that? You can reach him and his staff at 903-597-1471 or www.tylerrv.com

Taking a nap on a rainy afternoon while I drove around lost looking for the RV place.
Now, I have saved the best for last – our visit with Meagan. Her boyfriend, Chauncy, and her roommate, Courtney, joined in on the fun as well!!!! We got to see the pictures from her missions trip to Guatemala – not Mali. And, I told her a few stories about her mom as a teenager and young woman. I cannot begin to tell you how precious this visit was to us. I’m kind of glad that we will be here for a week. This will give us another opportunity to visit with them.

Dr. Baum, Glyn says that YOU ARE THE BOMB!!! Thanks for everything!! Next, we stopped by the CVS pharmacy on S. Broadway to fill a prescription. Hey guys, thank you so much for all your help under strenuous circumstances.
Last night we ended up at WalMart in Tyler on South Broadway. Crystal, Kendra and Bonnie rolled out the welcome mat. Bonnie really impressed me with how she could count money, talk on her 2-way and carry on a conversation with us – talk about multi-tasking – you go girl!!!

Later that evening, some teenagers-Amy ("Cali"), Haylie and Taylor- stopped by the RV to check things out and to say “Hi!” Glyn really hit it off with them and they have decided to hang out with Glyn while he is here recuperating.
Also, we have a very special “treat” in store for us this evening!!! We are going to eat dinner with my niece, Meagan, this evening. I do not even remember the last time I saw her!!!! I am so excited that I have butterflies. My sister, Nancy, tells me that she is a nutritionist, a registered CAN and is working on her RN. In addition, she has been on missions trips overseas and helped with numerous procedures while in Mali. She and Glyn also share a passion for cycling!!!

Basil, your encouragement this evening means more than you know. You are awesome. Thanks.
We headed towards a different truck stop just down the road so that Glyn could get a shower. We had no idea that we would feel so welcomed at The Gateway Travel Plaza. God always knows just what we need when we need it. The entire staff treated Glyn like a celebrity. And, to top it off, gave out lots of hugs that really lifted our spirits. Angel, Colby, Christy, Marie and Sandy really know how to roll out the red carpet for road weary travelers!!! You guys get an A+ in my book. Later in the evening Angel brought her two daughters, Sabrina and Tamrine, by the RV to meet Glyn. We were privileged to hear the story about Sabrina being baptized last Sunday! She is only 9 years old and God is already beginning to use her to reach others. And, all the saints of God said . . . . . . . . . . . AMEN!

November 5th of 2011 You’re not going to believe this!!!!
Before we headed out this morning we had a beautiful encounter with Bambi Joiner at the RV park. Her husband, David, was hit by a drunk driver one day while cycling and was killed. So, today we ride in his honor - in remembrance of David Joiner. Hey you guys, please remember Bambi in your prayers. She has been through so much and has some rather difficult days ahead of her.

Wow! This was in front of a church on Hwy 80 as we entered Boosier City.It was about 100 ft. tall.
Glyn cycled to Shreveport today. You’re prayers for a speedy recovery were much appreciated. His right knee still hurts some but it’s doing much better. We were in downtown Shreveport and Glyn was cycling on a sidewalk because it was mostly an abandoned area of town with little to no people when the sidewalk abruptly. He was going to pull back into the street and you guessed it – he was run off the road and now has another flat tire. Here’s the part you won’t believe – I was the person that almost hit him!!! It scared me to death!!! I keep seeing it happen in slow motion. Officer Clinton stopped to speak with us, check on Glyn and give directions. His spirit was so led by God - you know when you love the Lord, it really does show on your face!
Officer Clinton
We stopped at the W. Port Avenue WalMart in order to bed down for the night and get something to eat. While shopping for some groceries, we met GG (Charlotte) and John Kelly who go to the Methodist Church in Marshall. They were so excited about what Glyn was doing that they are going to put him on their Sunday School Class Prayer List. That is such a terrific idea. If everyone would ask their Sunday School Class to pray for Glyn and kind of “adopt” him while we are on this trip, that would be great. Also, let us hear from your SS Class on the guestbook page. We read the comments every morning to give us a good start to our day.
Also, when we finished shopping, we stepped over to speak to the manager, Miya, who was in a meeting. However, we had a great time hanging out with Kevin, Jennifer, Trina and Victoria. Trina, your words of encouragement really meant a lot. Thank you so much!!!

November 4th 2011 Injury
Ok. I held out on you guys on my last post. Wednesday afternoon on our way into Minden, LA. Glyn had a very bad accident. He was run off the road-again. This time it was a little more serious. The bike was fine but Glyn was not – his right knee took the majority of the impact. It didn’t break the skin much but his knee was extremely swollen. Despite the pain and swelling, he attended 1st Baptist Church of Minden where Glyn attended the youth service and got a much needed break from me.

Thursday, the 3rd was supposed to be an off day for us anyway. So, we stuck to alternating ice and heat, keeping it elevated. We stayed at the Cinnamon Creek RV park and got laundry & paperwork done. It also gave us an opportunity to rework our schedule and route which many of you have asked about. I will post it later this afternoon or first thing tomorrow. We met Linda, the camp hostess who was so encouraging. She has a beautiful spirit and it truly shows. Linda, you are a blessing.

Probably the best part of our "off" day was eating at the Crawfish Hole. We ate all of the wrong things! But, every now and then . . . .
Please continue to pray for our safety and also our finances that God would continue to not only meet our needs but that we would raise enough money for CCFA.

Next, we headed to WalMart for some supplies. God opened up some doors there. We met Theresa Bowman who shared with us that she had lost her son (only 31 years old)just 6 months ago. A few tears and several hugs later, we committed to ride tomorrow (Wednesday, November 2nd) in her son’s honor. His name was Ronnie Bowman and we remember him and his family today in a very special way.

Next, came a quick stop at Lowe’s where Eddie, Christina, Gene and Kyron helped us rig up something for the generator on our RV. They were all so encouraging and nice to Glyn when they found out what his cross-country journey was all about. Michael, you have a great group there!!! Everything that you guys did for us is much appreciated!!!!!!

Before we headed to Minden, we stopped at the True Value Hardware to fill up our LP gas tank. (The heater and the stove/oven use LP gas.) Thanks to Gene, Katie and Carl we will be toasty warm tonight.

November 1st of 2011 A Wonderfully Busy Day!!!!
Sunday was a much needed day of rest for Glyn. We appreciate all of your prayers for him and a speedy recovery. The folks at the TA Travel Center in Tallulah were awesome – taking Glyn under their wing and going out of their way to see that he got back on his feet in a quick hurry. Each of them has touched our lives in an unforgettable way. Vanessa and Queet were the first two people we encountered and we knew immediately that God had led us in the right direction. Listen up, TA – they do your company and the state of Louisiana proud as your number one hostesses. Carrie gave us a grand send off the next day with plenty of hugs. And Nene Rogers, who works in the Country Pride restaurant was so encouraging to us Sunday afternoon when Glyn was not feeling well. Just being around her lifted our spirits. Also, I must say that Esabau keeps the cleanest restrooms and showers. And, to top it all off, his smile will just make your day. Monday Glyn was feeling much better and we headed to Delhi LA, our next “scheduled” stop.He decided to go on a bit further to try and make up for lost time.He cycled to Rayville, LA.

Also, Sunday evening, we had a very special “God encounter.” We met Max & Terri Coleman, their son, Kody(University of Arkansas in Monticello) and Opal “Mimi” Anderson. They had just stopped for a quick break as they were headed back home. Each of them had such a precious, sweet countenance about them – you would have never guessed that that very day they had buried Opal’s husband of 50 plus years). It turns out that their other son, Kyle, was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis not too long ago. We had so much to share with one another. But, most of all, a love of our Savior. Please remember them in prayer in the days ahead as they go through this difficult time of adjustment.

We called a friend of ours, Woods Watson, who serves as the Seniors and Singles Minister at 1st Baptist of Monroe, LA(Toby Frost, senior pastor) to see if his church was having any type of celebration as many churches do on Oct.31st. He said to “come on” and he would introduce Glyn around to some of the other kids. We arrived only to find one of the largest most organized festivals in progress!! As usual, Woods was just clowning around. We met the youth pastor, Michael Woods, and got Glyn connected with some of the kids – Chris and Brandon. The big attraction for the night was a group called Real Encounter out of Missouri. These professional BMX cyclists really know how to put on a show. Also, Brad Bennett, who heads up the group, does unbelievable stunts on a motorcycle. Most of all, he has a tremendous testimony! Please check out their website at www.realencounters.org for more info on Brad Bennett, Tanner Watson, Joe West, Will Thompson. Also, a special “shout-out” goes to Scott Ditchfield who is a master of Flatland BMX stunts. Woods, thank you for all your help and please give Anita & the kids hugs from all the Murrays-especially Nana.

We landed back in Rayville for the night and had the distinct pleasure of meeting Joyce Cameron and her sister, Faye. They seemed to have a little bit of battery trouble which Glyn fixed with no trouble at all. It turns out that God had healed her from Thyroid cancer and vocal chord paralysis some years ago. Also, she is from Detroit near Dr. Dorinda Clark Cole’s church where I went last summer for a worship competition(video available at www.OurMastersHands.org.) The Walmart in Rayville welcomed us with open arms by Anthony(manager) and Amanda(CSM). Thank you!!!

October 28th, 29th & 30th 2011 Friday night football----Sunday morning blues
Friday, the 28th
Friday’s weather here in Pearl, MS was terrible – 57 degrees, wet and windy. I made the decision for Glyn not to ride today. In order for the rest of the trip to go smoothly, we did not need for him to get sick. Saturday’s weather forecast appears to be terrific so we plan to head towards Vicksburg, MS. A couple of good things came out of our delay, however. First, we had to run by the bank and then the CVS pharmacy. The store manager, Mr.Tim Woodard, and employees, Dominique, LaToya and Casey were very supportive and encouraging in regards to Glyn’s trip. Secondly, we were able to visit with Janet Smith. Janet was one of my mom’s best friends growing up in Brookhaven. They had a little “club” of sorts and called themselves the Merry Maidens. They still get together from time to time as travel & time permit. It was so good to get “caught up” on all the activities she is involved in with her church and at Jackson Prep - the school where she worked previously as the guidance counselor. Their school was having a football game and Glyn expressed an interest in attending and Janet quickly made the necessary arrangements. By the time the game started, the nasty wet weather had cleared up and so we decided he could attend. Great game – they won 31-0. While he was there, he made some new friends, Kristen (a senior) and Piper, her little sister. Also, while at the game, we met Detective Lloyd Coulter of the Flowood Police Department. We stood there and swapped stories back and forth about the tremendous saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a former undercover narcotics agent and when he speaks to youth groups, he has their full attention – especially after he shows them the bullet hole right in the middle of his chest. God is using his testimony to reach so many!! Thank you for putting yourself out there to be used by Him – to be a servant.

Saturday, the 29th
Saturday, the weather was perfect and we headed to Vicksburg. When we got to Jackson, however, Hwy 80 sort of disappeared like it did in Meridian. We drove nearly 20 miles before we could reconnect to Hwy 80. So, Glyn decided to cycle on past Vicksburg into Louisiana. He did, however, travel in the RV across the Mississippi River for safety reasons. We arrived in Tallulah, LA Saturday afternoon and set up at the TA truck stop. We met Karen and Cinnamon in the parking lot while walking our dog. Come to find out we are headed in the same direction-different timetable- but pretty much the same route. We exchanged information so we can meet up down the road. After supper, Glyn headed to the TV room to watch some football and met Dave Orozco. They started talking football, dirtbikes and motorcycles. Those of you who know Glyn understand that once he gets started………………… and one story leads to another and another and so on. Well, Glyn met his match. They swapped stories till I about had to take my shoe off-little mama style!! They were having too much fun!! He is from California and they decided to resume the “war stories” game when we get to Cali. We can’t wait to meet your wife and family when we get there.

Glyn was not having a very good day! He was up twice in the night throwing up – the first time in about 6 months that we have had to deal with that. I think he may have overdone it a bit yesterday.
Gidgett and Glyn taking a nap.
About lunchtime we headed into the truck stop to do some laundry and grab a bite to eat – soup from the salad bar sounded like a winner to me. While we were in there we met Pastor Priscilla Williams from Community Holiness Church, Evangelist Java Woods and Ms. Ammeilia. Pastor Priscilla is a walking miracle. She had had a brain tumor the size of a golf ball and was paralyzed. We had the privilege of rejoicing with her in her healing.

October 27th 2011 God is SO good!!!
That song keeps playing over and over again in my head! So much has happened in the last 24 hours that it is hard to know exactly where to begin.
Due to the fact that we had to stop and have work done on Glyn’s bike, we decided it would be better to just stay the night in Meridian so Glyn would not be cycling after dark. We stayed at the Benchmark RV Park just outside of town. It has a “small family” type of atmosphere. Randy & Brenda Spitzkeit makes everyone feel so welcome. Also, his shower and laundry room facility are the cleanest we have seen since we have been on the road. Please visit his website at www.benchmarkrv.net to make a reservation or call 601-483-7999. We met a gentleman there from Canada, Ron, who was headed to Arizona and another couple that was from Illinois headed to Florida. We also met Anne whose daughter has Ulcerative Colitis and was most interested in Glyn’s story.
Thank you Ron & Brenda!!!

We left Meridian headed to Forest, MS and stopped in Newton at the Piggly Wiggly to pick up a few things. I spoke to the manager, Mike Butler, who told us about a local fellow that had cycled the US on three different occasions and had also done one tour in Europe. He picked up the phone and called Andy Armstrong who came straightway to meet us. He and Mike are both awesome!! We fellowshipped a bit together and Andy prayed for us before we pulled back onto the road. About one mile outside of Forest a man ran Glyn off the road. He didn’t get hurt but now he had two flat tires. His back tire was cut up pretty bad. We called it a night and camped out in the WalMart parking lot. The manager, James, and Loretta were terrific – and empathetic I might add to Glyn’s plight. We had had a long day that ended poorly and their “welcome mat” made a huge difference. The next morning Loretts, Ben(another manager) and Debbie sent us off with a smile.

Now, here is where it gets interesting . . . . . . .
We called Mr. Armstrong and told him what had happenend and to see if he knew where a local bike shop might be located. Much to our surprise, he volunteered to come pi ck us up and take us to Meridian(the closest shop for 90 miles) for repairs. While on the road, we began to talk about this and that – come to find out, he was from Brookhaven, Ms and had moved to Meridian, MS. My mom’s family is from Brookhaven and then moved to Meridian. The similarities in our stories were astounding. Mr. Gray, the owner of Heart and Sole, was quite surprised to see us back again. We found out in visiting with him that his sister has UC – can you believe this day? After some repairs by Chris, we were headed back to Forest, MS.

I talked with my mother later last night and she just cried tears of joy when she found out about Andy Armstrong. His father had been the football coach at Brookhaven High when my mother was a teen. She even remembers him as a baby. And, his mother, Marilyn, gave my mom one of the first Bibles she ever had and just recently had shown it to me.
I’ll say it again – God is SO good!

After the funeral Glyn & I traveled back up to Knoxville, AL to pick up where we had left off on Friday. This time we arrived very late in the evening and were greeted byTerrance Saddik. We cycled on to York, AL yesterday where we connected with Kenny Terrell and his family. Kenny lived with us while he was in Birmingham. We left York this morning headed westward and Glyn had a flat tire. He had his tires changed and bike tweeked on by Chris Trayal at the Heart and Sole Cycle & Fitness Bike shop in Meridian. If you are in the area and need some help with your bike, you may contact them at 601-693-2453 or at www.heartnsole.net. While in the shop we met Sheila who happens to work at the endoscopy center nearby and was well acquainted with Crohn's and Colitis. By the time the repairs and fitting were completed, it was too late in the afternoon for Glyn to be on the road so we bedded down for the night and will head to Forest, MS tomorrow. While in Meridian, however, we stopped by the church-Poplar Springs Drive Baptist-we attended when I was a child and waltzed down memory lane with Mrs. Sylvia Buchanan.

October 23rd 2011 A final farewell to a larger-than-life man
Wow! It’s soooo hard to put into words what the last couple of days have meant to us all. The memorial service for my Uncle Bud-Albert Sydney Hartman- was a real tribute to him as a husband(of 63 years), father(of 3), grandfather(of 5), great grandfather(of 3) friend and a hero(flew 82 solo missions in WWII). If you have ever attended a military service, then you know what I’m talking about. Also, we were able to connect with so many relatives – many of whom we had not seen in 20 years. They came from all over to pay tribute to this dear man – from Texas, New York, Arkansas, etc.... And, of course, when any southern family comes together there is plenty of food!!!! I must have gained 5 pounds in 2 days but it was SO worth it!!

Glyn cycled down Hwy 11 out of Northport/Tuscaloosa area and made it to where I-20 crosses at exit 52. We pulled in at a Truck Stop/Gas station. Felicia and Mattiewere most gracious to us as we bedded down for the evening. The station was abuzz with activity and we made friends with two couples that were passing through. One couple that was moving back to Texas stopped for their dog to play with our dog. The other had a bit of a problem with their pull behind camper. We offered to lend a hand. Dr. Brian Gastpar, his lovely wife and two children were touched by Glyn’s story. Thank you for your encouragement and donation.

October 20th 2011 Well, we are on the road again!
Glyn clycled from Helena to Tuscaloosa. We drove on up to Lake Lurleen State Park for the night. It was about 15 miles off the beaten path but well worth the drive. We called ahead & found out that after stopping for supplies we were barely going to make it through the gates. Lisa Cotner assured us that she would patiently wait on us. Her smile at the end of this very long day was just what we needed!! Randy Stults, the park manager, came by our campsite later in the evening to check on us. He had previously worked at Oak Mountain State Park just down the street from where we live and knew some of the people that we know. The bond of common friendship made us feel at home – so far from home. The next morning we got ready to leave and saw a couple of cyclists preparing for a long ride. Randy Currrides for BBC in Birmingham (off Montclair Rd) and Omar Fraser who rides for Cahaba Cycles. Their enthusiasm and energy made for a great start to our day.

October 18th 2011 Errands, errands and more errands
There was a lot more to do in preparation to be gone for 2 months than I had anticipated throwing us even more off schedule. But, in the long run, it will pay off for everyone.
First, we had to run by the bank to handle some things. Travis Agee from Regions bank on hwy 150 in Hoover, AL is the best!!!! I had pretty much lost faith in the banking system feeling as if my money would better serve me stuffed in my mattress or buried in the back yard. Listen up, Regions. Travis not only knows his "stuff," he is a class act and knows how to make people feel like they matter.
We stopped at Sam's to fill up. It was so full that Yolanda and DeJuan had to step out there and help us get a pump. Everybody was trying to jump out there in front of us because we are so big. We'd still be sitting there if it hadn't been for you guys. Thanks!

Craig Tamburello from Brick Alley Bikes in Birmingham making a few adjustments to Glyn's bike. Craig has been there with Glyn from the beginning of this vision - sometime around May of this year. He has taught us so much and given so much of his time to educate a couple of novices about cycling and has connected us with other cyclists and companies. Without his help, support, generosity and encouragement this trip would still be in the planning stages. If you have any cycling needs and you are in the Birmingham area, please contact him at 205-822-0779.

Sometimes, as we travel through life, God brings some very special into our path. Chris Taylor and Tracy Honeycutt are two such people. They have really become part of our family - my "other children." It has been such a pleasure and privilege to see them grow in the Lord over the last couple of years. I can't wait to see what God has in store for them in the future!
Glyn cycled from Dandy RV in Anniston to The Bass Pro Shop in Leeds, AL. We were so close to home that I was like an old mule headed for the barn at sundown. We were not supposed to be home until tomorrow but ............
When we first started out, we ran into some kids from the Oxford High School Band that were trying to raise money because they are headed to the BCS championship game in New Orleans where they will compete for an opportunity to be the opening show. If you're interested in helping the band financially, please contact the school office at 256-241-3166.
We made a quick stop just outside of Pell City where Hwy 78 ends for Glyn to load his bike in the RV. There is a portion of the Hwy that joins I20 so Glyn cannot ride his bike. While we were there trying to figure out an alternate route, we met Jonnie and Rene. Jonnie & Rene both can relate to Glyn due to the fact that they both have gastric or digestive issues.

When we arrived at The Bass Pro Shop, we were received by the assistant store manager, Tim Hendrix, and ate at Uncle Buck's sandwich shop. If you have never been before, it is well worth the drive out there. There is so much to see and do!! And the food is excellent! We met Tom Carson, a Vietnam Veteran, whose son was diagnosed at the age of 4 with Leukemia. Praise God - he beat it! That was 32 years ago. Tom, thank you for your encouraging words and most of all, for your service to our country.

Glyn cycled from Stockbridge to Carrollton Georgia today.
Our new friend, Lee, started us off right with prayer. Lee is part of a ministry here in the Atlanta area and is also studying HVAC. We had the opportunity to share with him how my dad had organized men in his church to minister to widows by helping them around the house and providing certain services – like HVAC – at little or no cost. His precious love for the Lord is so evident in his smile. It truly blessed us.
My new prayer partner, Lee
On the way we stopped to see the house where the opening scene of “Gone With The Wind” was filmed. The lady, Mrs. Carol Falco, who runs the gift shop there has UC and could immediately relate to Glyn’s cause. Her warm smile and southern charm are an added bonus the Stately Oaks Estate.

While trying to navigate my way out of town I got a little lost – SURPRISE. Thankfully, we spotted a police officer that was able to get us headed in the right direction. Thanks again to Mr. T.D. Cash of the Clayton County Police Department!!!!!

We spent the night at John Tanner Park just outside of Carrollton, GA. Beautiful!!! Our camp host and hostess were Charles and Diana – no kidding!! The office staff seemed to be incredibly camera shy – Mandy & Trudy. Your warmth and hospitality are seconded only by the beauty of the park. We made some fabulous new friends - David and Karen - whose son canoed down the Mississippi last year and raised a little over $6,000 for breast cancer awareness!!!! And, no - I will NOT be attempting that for my next trip. I'm crazy but not that crazy. LOL!! Blessings to you both!!!! Just as we were pulling out of the park, we met Cubbie and Anita Sellers. Your encouragement as we started our day was much needed. Thank you!!!
October 4th and 5th 2011 Showers of Blessings, Showers of Blessings, Indeed!!!!!
We had been trying to reconnect with some old friends from Douglasville-Dr. John Pennington and his sweet wife, Carolyn- to no avail. He had served on staff at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham twenty-two years ago. My dad was one of his mentors “back in the day.” My parents used to drive over to Douglasville and meet them at the exit to grab a burger and check in on each other. It appeared that we were going to be like ships that pass in the night. As it turned out, God DID allow us the opportunity and privilege to connect with each other. His church, 1st Baptist of Douglasville, welcomed us with open arms. Amazingly, their church has a hook up for RVs for evangelists that prefer to travel/stay in a RV. Soooo. . . . . . . we stayed in the church parking lot. Wednesday afternoon Glyn met with the church youth pastor, Kevin Williams, who offered for Glyn to share his testimony with their youth group. It was terrific – especially the fellowship afterwards. Andrew and Ellie took Glyn “out on the town.” When they got back, Andrew asked if he could pray with us. How awesome is that? Two 18 year old kids unashamed of their faith in God enough to boldly say “let’s pray together.” We also had the opportunity to meet two people at the church whose lives have been directly affected by IBD.

Romans 8:28 says that “God causes all things to work together for the glory of God to those who love God and are called according to his purpose.” Remember the pizza joint-Stevie B’s? While we were preparing to leave we stopped and spoke to two ladies-Regina Jones & Jauwaun Blaine-with their children. Jauwaun offered for us to come by her house Tuesday if we needed anything. We called and headed over there to take a shower and visit. Like so many other happenings on this trip, this was a God ordained “thing.” God is birthing in these two ladies a women’s ministry in Douglasville. We were able to pray together and - it doesn’t happen often - but God enabled us to speak words of new life and clarity into their vision. Please keep My Sisters Keeper ministry in your prayers. We look forward to coming back to this area and helping these two mighty women in the things that God has set before them.
October 3rd of 2011 Glyn gets a break from "the warden"
Last night we went into WalMart in Lithonia and while we were waiting to pay we met Aric and Sandra. Sandra’s husband has Crohn’s disease and has had four surgeries to try and correct the problem. She was most empathetic and compassionate towards Glyn. It has been amazing to meet so many people that either have Crohn’s/UC or they have a relative that suffers from some form of IBD.

Today we were able to reconnect with Jerome Adkins, the store manager at the WalMart in Lithonia. We had met him the first time through Atlanta. He and his Assistant Store Manager, Athron, rolled out the red carpet for us – and I do mean they gave us the royal treatment!!! That store was as busy on a regular weekday as our WalMart back home is at Christmas time! They average 10,000 people through the doors every day. Despite the fact that they were very busy, they still made time for us-while continuing to juggle their everyday routine. Later on in conversation we found out that Jerome and his wife had 13 children and are expecting their 14th child in November. He is also in the process of starting a new church in the Metro Atlanta area called World Fellowship of Jesus Christ – a non-denominational protestant church. In the brief time that we spent together, his love for the Lord and his passion for God were so evident. If you are in the area this fall, you need to check it out!!

Earlier today my brother and my mom went by the doctor’s office in Birmingham to pick up Glyn’s medication. He is on a drug called humera that he takes by injection every two weeks. It has to be kept refrigerated and cannot be filled at any “regular” pharmacy. It must be shipped to your home address from a “specialty” pharmacy. Soooooo they curried it over to Atlanta for us-we met up with them in Douglasville where we ate at StevieB’s pizza buffet. The staff-particularly, the manager, Chaz- were great and Glyn was excited to meet some more kids his age. Carl, Jacob, Spencer, Ethan, Justin, Antoine, Kelsey & Caitlin. We invited them to come hang out at the RV after they closed up. They took Glyn to a restaurant down the street called Montery’s. After looking at my face all day every day, Glyn needed and deserved this break. Thanks, guys, for showing him a good time!!!! And thanks, especially to Antoine who gave him a ride to and from.

This was a real labor of love for my mom because she had just left the dentist office where she had a root canal. Please continue to pray for God’s healing over my precious mother for her mouth but, most importantly, for her knee. For those of you who do not know, she had knee replacement surgery in Feb. of 2010 and is still in a lot of pain. She has seen another doctor and has had several epidurals but nothing seems to help.
I could not believe it-Glyn brought me a picture to prove it!!! While they were out, the kids saw a police car from home-Hoover. Also, get a load of our “neighbor” for the night. She – the self-proclaimed gypsy mermaid parked right next to us in the Walmart parking lot.

Later that evening Glyn cycled from Gonyers to McDonough. We needed to drop in on a CVS pharmacy and pick up some of Glyn's prescriptions. As God would have it, our pharmacist-a newlywed of one week-was all too familiar with the devastating affects of Crohn's disease. Her husband has it and has struggled with it for a number of years.

The next morning we joined her for church at Jonesboro First Baptist Church. I can’t tell you in words what the experience was like for me. My soul needed a refreshing. Henry Blackaby’s-author of Experiencing God-son,Mel Blackaby, is the pastor there and he had an incredible “twist” or “view” of the story about Jesus walking on water. He pointed out that the disciples were on the Sea of Galilee in the first place because He told them to get in a boat and cross to the other side. Jesus sent them into the storm. Whew! Sometimes Jesus sends us into a storm in order to give us the privilege and opportunity to trust Him. It also gives Him the opportunity to demonstrate His Sovereignty and Majesty over every area of our lives. His wife, the first lady, was the loveliest hostess. She greeted us as if we were long lost family. I watched later as we waited to speak to the Young Adult Pastor- Spikey Mike- as she embraced every person that passed her by calling them by name. And, in a church that size, that is quite a feat.
After church Mrs. Amy Miles took us to eat at Cracker Barrel before sending us on our way. She dropped us back off in the church parking lot at our RV where we quickly proceeded to take a Sunday afternoon nap. We started out and I realized I had lost my Bible. Was it in Mrs. Miles car or was it at Cracker Barrel or was it at the church? We swung by Mrs. Miles home who took me back up to the church where I retrieved my Bible from the foyer. I know she is wondering how we are going to make it to Los Angeles seeing as how I had already lost my phone(long story) and my Bible and it was only 3:00 in the afternoon!!!!! You know, sometimes I wonder about that too and then I bow my head and acknowledge the One who has brought us safely thus far.
We stopped to fill our water tank at a local RV park and met Beverly and Bernard. We had church all over again standing right there in the office. We even had an opportunity to pray for Bernard for total healing! He said he was waiting on a kidney transplant. Our hearts became so instantly bonded with the two of them that it was really hard to leave. I need all of my prayer warriors to stand in agreement with me for complete and total healing of Bernards kidneys!!

September 30, 2011 Hard Labor Creek
We started the day at a small “fix-it” shop just on the outskirts of Crawfordville where we had the opportunity to meet Alqueno, Willie Scott, Rashad and Jataziouz - great family just hanging out enjoying each other and the perfect weather.
Alqueno, Willie Scott, Rashad and Jatazioun
We camped at Hard Labor Creek. I know. A lot of you think that they probably named that place after me. LOL!!! I had talked on the phone with Liz to make our reservation and found out that she herself had had some colon problems that even required surgery. When we arrived hugs abounded. Those who have been through similar circumstances share a common bond that is unexplainable. She was encouraged by Glyn’s story and her story touched Glyn. He is riding for you today, Liz. Michael and Elaine were also there to lend a helping hand as we checked in and got settled.
September 29, 2011 A Day of Rest!!!
We had been so concerned about staying on schedule that we completely overlooked the fact that Wednesday was supposed to be an “off” day for Glyn. LOL! We just got up and headed out. It was especially disheartening to know that we drove off and left the beautiful lake view that we had at our other campsite. Little did we know that what we saw as a mistake was a blessing that God had in store for us on down the road in Crawfordville, GA. We found the A H Stephens State Park.
It was beautiful and serene. The camp staff were so encouraging and supportive of Glyn’s efforts to get the word out there about Crohn’s and Colitis because one of their managers has Crohn’s. Pat Statham and Andre McDowell were the first two staffers to greet us. Next came Michael Johnson who helped me get my ant problem under control. When I parked next to a small Dogwood tree and rolled out the side of the RV, I didn’t realize that I had rolled out the welcome mat to these little critters. Thanks again Michael!! Our camp host and hostess were Bill and Pat Garrisonand their precious little rescue, “Buddy.” He is a beautiful Cocker Spaniel with a winning personality. He’s really the camp host, he just lets Pat and Bill think that they are – just kidding you guys!!!

The best treat of all, though was meeting the Woods Family. They camp out twice a year as a family. Wow! This should be an inspiration to all of us. They hailed mostly from Atlanta but some were as far away as Pennsylvania. There must have been about 35 in total pitched in 8 different tents. The matriarch of the family, Stella, and one of her daughters – they call her “T” – had arrived first and were large and in charge. We had so much fun helping them set up. Later they all headed to the store and took Glyn along for the ride for some much needed supplies. Friends and families like this are hard to find so when you do, you never let go. I know that some of these folks we’ll stay in touch with for years to come. All-in-all, it was the Woods family, the Lloyd family, the Young family and the Davis family. A very special “shout out” to you all!! And thank you so much for including us in your family time.
Ms. Stella

P.S. Good Luck to the newlyweds. And, Charisse, I expect God to do some wonderful things through your pediatric counseling.

This morning I was very concerned about Glyn’s continued nerve damage. It did not seem to be much better. As the day wore on, some of the numbness began to wear off. We began to look for a cycle shop here in Sumter. We thought buying him a different type of seat may help. As it so happens, God put in our path Buddy Westcott. Buddy used to own the cycle shop in Sumter but has since closed and had opened a mattress store in the same location[Mattress Express 803-773-8134]. We ran into a fellow cyclist – God at work again – that told us he still works on bikes. He and his wife were awesome!!! And guess what? One of Buddy’s sons has a form of IBD. We felt like we had been to Cycling 101. He adjusted Glyn’s seat and then steered us to another cycle shop in Columbia along the same route that we were taking that would actually carry the merchandise we needed.
Buddy Westcott
We arrived in Columbia and could not find the store that was on the right side of the left fork in the road but also on the left side of the right fork in the road – getting directions was a hoot. After several calls to the store we were guided into the parking lot by none other than “Bob Marley” who stepped out into the parking lot to guide our RV. We looked up and saw his ear-to-ear smile and knew that once again God had steered us to the right place. The owner,Brian Curran, of Outspokin Bicycles[outspokinbicycles.com] has an incredible set up. He has a fitting room for bikes. He had Glyn get on and begin peddling while he took measurements.

Later that evening we camped out at the McDonald’s in Aiken, SC. Listen up MickeyD : Paul, Niki, Kesha and Stephanie were unbelievable – the best group of employees you’ve got!!!! Also, a special shout out goes to Stephanie – the first homeschooler we have run into on this trip. Glyn was grateful to have someone to share this experience with that was his age.

Glyn woke up this morning feeling sooooo much better with the feeling having returned to his leg. He decided that he would give it a try today. He had an incredible ride stopping only briefly every 10 miles or so for a quick pick-me-up.
A girlfriend of mine this morning expressed her concern for the financial obligations of this trip. I reminded her that the man I work for owns the cattle on a thousand hills and is the King of the universe. More importantly, he is my Savior and Lord. He will not let his servants get stranded. He promises us to meet our needs in His timetable. Remember He gave the children the manna and quail they needed only for that day? His timing is perfect. We arrived at the only Regions(Augusta) bankin the area at 10 minutes till 4 and were able to access Glyn’s new account thanks to Tabitha and Julie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, a big shout out goes to Carla and Shannon at the Circle K on the SC-GA line. Your encouragement and donation were greatly appreciated and got us to our next stop!!!
Glyn made it to the other side of Augusta!!!!!!
We weren’t sure where we wanted to bed down for the night and Glyn found a place in our Trailer Life Directory. Granted, it was a little off our route but they had a laundry mat and we both needed some clean clothes. Wow!!! The Ridge Road Campground in Leah, GA is beautiful. I was awestruck at the beauty and serenity of this place. It was well worth the extra miles to have an encounter with one God’s special places. The Army Corps of Engineers needs to be grateful that they have such great people like Mr. & Mrs. Joe Slone to run this place. Thank you so much for making us feel so at home while so far from home. They also had the friendliest campers that we have encountered so far – I thought that Wayne & Judy Mathias from Virginia were part of the welcoming committee. I teased them by saying that they should be on the payroll – helping guide our RV into its appropriate place and giving us some Comet to keep the ants out of our trailer.
September 28, 2011
We hated to leave Ridge Road Campground this morning but did not want to alter our schedule again. On the way toward Warrenton, Glyn had a flat in Thomason. Also, just rolled over 1,000 miles on the new RV!!! I was so excited!!!!
Glyn made it past his appointed destination today. We are at the A. H. Stephens Historic Park in Crawfordville, GA. We rolled in a little past 7 and didn’t have a chance to meet anybody. There is a confederate historical museum around the corner so I just hope that I can Glyn out of here in the morning– being the history buff that he is…..
Headed to Madison, GA in the morning
